Atlanta\u2019s acclaimed DJ\/producer\/remixer Kai Alce<\/span><\/a> proclaimed, \u201cIts A New Day.\u201d The mantra interwoven through a soundscape of current mid-tempo grooves ends in the record crates of vintage house music sounds.\u00a0 It\u2019s been noted the NDATL label owner has been on an old-skool house music tip lately and his followers are all smiley faces.\u00a0 Mr. Alce slices and dices mellifluous beats that drive happy feet mad to the restaurant floor to dance between dining tables and around seating guests.\u00a0 Warm cheers serenade the cozy environment that patronize dining companions munching on the last bites of oxtail tacos while clicking cocktail glasses of Blackfoot Confederacy atop candle lit tables.\u00a0 Finally, after an eternity, the full bellies abandon their stations as the wooden oblong dining tables are evacuated onto the outdoors back patio or stationed alongside an exposed brick wall.\u00a0 The transformation from delectable eatery to decadent dance club signals the countdown to\u2026\u2026..<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Launch Control: We interrupt this blog to bring you a very important announcement.\u00a0 T minus to launch off is approximately thirty seconds.\u00a0 The ATLANTA WEEKENDer, Afrique Electrique or Distinctive cannot and will not be held responsible for what will take place to your body, mind and soul.\u00a0 Please, prepare to be possessed by strange rhythms that will descend upon you like bolts of lightning.\u00a0 Your life will never be the same.\u00a0 As a matter-of-fact, within the coming week you will experience severe withdrawals from the seismic shift that will take place.\u00a0 Brace yourself.\u00a0 Get ready for the ride of your life.\u00a0 You are about to launch off on Space Shuttle K2.\u00a0 AKA Space Shuttle Karizma Kaytronik.\u00a0 Your destination and mission: To seek out uncharted rhythms and to dance on unexplored worlds.\u00a0<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

For anyone\u2019s guess what occurs next could not be possibly conceived or imagined.\u00a0 All it takes is for one switch of a button to launch the party\u2019s booster rockets into space that sends the shuttles red glare bursting into the air.\u00a0 The travelers packed into the thin vessel stand frozen-in animated positions with stunned visages-completely suspended in space and time until\u2026\u2026.a jolt is felt.\u00a0 A thump is heard\u2026\u2026 that signals the arrival of some unknown orchestrated philharmonic ready to pounce on the heads of the people.\u00a0 Split between several seconds, calmness gives way to chaos.\u00a0 Quiet anticipation gives way to boisterous recollection.\u00a0 A whirlwind of activity electro charges the atmosphere as Karizma Kaytronic presses play and sends the room into static shock.\u00a0 The environment is shocked with piceous particles ready to manifest in ectopic explosions.\u00a0 A seismic shift occurs.\u00a0 The travelers don\u2019t expect such force.\u00a0 Nor have they experienced such blithe.\u00a0 Suddenly, people\u2019s feet seem to detach off the floor, somehow able to defy gravity.\u00a0 Strange rhythms pulsating from several speakers command the floating bodies to dance in mid-air.\u00a0 The moonwalk has nothing on this.\u00a0 With force, the sacred grooves possess every soul within sight.\u00a0 The strange rhythm slam bodies against walls, drops bodies to the floor, and makes bodies roll on the floor.\u00a0 One individual even wants to scale up a wall.\u00a0 One being that vibrates violently, runs around in circles and dances as if overtaken by a secular ghost.\u00a0 Clothes fall apart.\u00a0 How can they not?\u00a0 A left suspender strap hangs loose.\u00a0 A red hat falls off one dancer\u2019s head, flies several feet in the air and lands somewhere on the other side of the ship.\u00a0 Not one body or article is safe from this spatial anomaly.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s back-up.\u00a0 Just who and what is this strange phenomenon called a Karizma Kaytronik?\u00a0 Perhaps a look into the house music\u2019s history logs can provide additional insight.\u00a0 Karizma Kaytronik hails from Baltimore, Maryland USA, the city better known for its crime-ridden statistics and cable television police drama than its music.\u00a0 Every so often a life force shows up bearing talented gifts.\u00a0 His name happens to be Kris Klayton.\u00a0 Over time, Kris\u2019 government name became Karizma the stage persona that won the world over with unmatched DJ skills and signature productions crafted under several monikers.\u00a0 To explore the mind of Karizma his name must be defined.\u00a0 Charisma is a gift of power that is divinely bestowed upon an individual.\u00a0 The power that Karizma possesses when he plays music is unequal to any rival.\u00a0 Some DJs can play music.\u00a0 Then there are DJs that can actually PLAY music.\u00a0 The latter are the anointed ministers of music (hence Karizma\u2019s brother in rhythm DJ Spen) where Karizma Kaytronic falls.\u00a0 The in-demand DJ\/producer\/remixer doesn\u2019t cue a CD and press play or cue some laptop software and press enter, he takes a beat and pulls an a cappella out of his a$$ and creates spontaneous smash-ups.\u00a0 These live remixes rock the global community of house mongers from the US to Croatia.\u00a0 To create spontaneous remixes is no wee task as a veteran goes through mind boggling hours and years of practice to pull off such a craft.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the fuss?\u00a0 It all starts with the Freddie Hubbard, \u201cLittle Sunshine\u201d interpolation, sampled by the likes of Pepe Braddock, Trackheadz, Jask and DJ Spen, that explodes in the ear drums of the listeners.\u00a0 Several seconds later, an, \u201cHeeyyyy,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cOhhhhh\u201d resonates and commands its place on board the ship.\u00a0 The unexpected yet surprising vocals cause rapture.\u00a0 Look up in the air, it\u2019s a meteor, it\u2019s an unidentified flying object, no it is songbird Jill Scott\u2019s, \u201cGolden\u201d flying to the rescue that makes this supernatural smash-up the journey\u2019s soundtrack. \u00a0Stop!\u00a0 Someone\u2019s heart just exploded.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

On one hand, Karizma is a humble gent with a clever persona when in conversation.\u00a0 However, once behind the musical controls, out comes the world revered DJ\u2019s other personality.\u00a0 Kaytronic, Karizma\u2019s alter-ego, takes over the ship\u2019s music controls and flies the people at warp speeds to uncharted territories.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kaytronik\u2019s first stop transports the travelers to the realm of Planet Old-School where time travels backwards and forwards simultaneously.\u00a0 The recently re-edit old-school anthem of Rufus & Chaka Kahn\u2019s,<\/span> \u201cLive In Me<\/span><\/a>\u201d<\/span><\/strong> remixed by Karizma\u2019s brother in rhythm DJ Spen, commands the star power that keeps the crowd zoned out in euphoric mental states.\u00a0 Time continues its retrograde as BT Express\u2019, \u201cPeace Pipe\u201d the 1970\u2019s war protest anthem has the crowd \u201csmoke it on up.\u201d\u00a0 Another house music classic from yesteryear recently interpreted for the current year, Kerri Chandler\u2019s,<\/span> \u201cRain<\/span><\/a>\u201d<\/span><\/strong> (Atjazz Mix) keeps the crowd all buzzed dancing animatedly in mid-air; as GQ, \u201cDisco Nights\u201d-the song that most DJs are playing as of late-warps minds back to a time of swinging bell bottoms and dancing platform shoes.\u00a0 However, it is Saint Germain\u2019s, \u201cRose Rouge\u201d from the year 2000 that takes the exploration to new heights.\u00a0 On the time lapse planet, writhed bodies fall to the ground, roll on the floor, and cause substantial damage to anyone standing in their way.\u00a0 Minds become twisted with strange debacles.\u00a0 This 2000 space odyssey loses all control and goes mad.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Once again the lodestar, with a press of a button, vaporizes the travelers into thin air where their bodies land on another unknown surface.\u00a0 There are certain DJs that can unleash the BEAST.\u00a0 Not all DJs, honestly not that many, can awaken the slumber of the beast.\u00a0 Every so often, perhaps every blue moon, the beast is unleashed that strikes.\u00a0 To witness its attack is bar none. \u00a0Shhhh.\u00a0 Quietly the dancers watch their every move on this ramshackle planet that resembles an apocalyptic scene straight from a nightmare.\u00a0 Hold on just for one minute.\u00a0 In the distance, there appear several frightening beast-like forms that resemble dead zombies from a certain iconic music video.\u00a0 A closer inspection reveals their ghastly movements interpret the dance moves danced in that certain iconic music video.\u00a0 In the background the shouts of trumpets blast to the forefront of the mind.\u00a0 It is the opening sequence to Black Motion\u2019s interpretation of Michael Jackson\u2019s opus, \u201cThriller\u201d (Mortarfied Remix) the bootleg with that afro-house beat that has the monsters dancing.\u00a0 Quickly the travelers join suit and dance with the otherworldly beasts with smiles on their faces.\u00a0 All is well on this planet.\u00a0 Truth be told, music is the universal language.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The dancers beam back on board Shuttle K2, and are fixated on French-ster<\/em> Rocco featuring C. Robert Walker on vocals with, \u201cI Love The Night<\/span><\/a>\u201d<\/span> (Louie Vega Roots Mix).\u00a0 In the DJ booth, Kaytronik doesn\u2019t play around, nor does he expect the dancers to play around on the dance floor.\u00a0 His music comes off boisterous but not pretentious.\u00a0 The beats play hard, not fair.\u00a0 Karizma is no joke.\u00a0 Nor is he for the ballerina types that prance to fingers that snap softly at 120 beats per minute or below.\u00a0 Folks, this IS your father\u2019s house music.\u00a0 That Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit shit that pioneered house music\u2019s movement in the late 1980\u2019s and early 1990\u2019s, a time when the beats were allowed to be pitched up, or jacked up to its fullest furor to deliver seismic jolts to the heart.\u00a0 So if you like to play patty cake beats then get out of the cockpit because things are bound to get HOT!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

More homage to Rufus & Chaka Kahn is paid with \u201cI Know You, I Live You\u201d that comes to an abrupt stop in mid-song. \u00a0From the mouth of one disgruntle traveler spews four letter obscenities that hurls toward the DJ booth.\u00a0 However, all is well as the next song starts that has the once cursing traveler now singing, \u201cTell Me\/Would You Like\/If The DJ\/Brought It Back\u201d at the top of her lungs with a smile on face.\u00a0 The broken beat music segues into A Tribe Called Quest\u2019s, \u201cAward Tour\u201d as the travelers scream in holy panic.\u00a0 Additional old-school hip hop rounds out the trip that makes for a safe return to the Sound Table.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

WEEKENDer Epilogue<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sound Table\u2019s lights come on.\u00a0 One glance around the space reveals dishevelment.\u00a0 What happened?\u00a0 You question where you had gone?\u00a0 You check your watch to find three hours has passed.\u00a0 Really?!?\u00a0 Had that much time lapsed?\u00a0 For what was three hours seems like a mere three minutes.\u00a0 Had you really been gone that long?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Later that morning, at your Studio Suite at the W Hotel (downtown) after a bit of sleep and slumber you find that your passport has been mysteriously stamped with a K2 Shuttle Mission ensignia. \u00a0Now that\u2019s<\/em> golden!!!<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\t\t
