Mr. Flip drives in uncharted territory.\u00a0 What he labels, Yoruba branded soul starts with\u00a0 \u201cDrippn,\u2019\u201d all bouncy and Spanish fun.\u00a0 As \u201cPull Up\u201d is breezy, laid back with flute.\u00a0 Think California cool.\u00a0 Intros provide comic relief from the monotony.\u00a0 Anyone for the snoring at the start of the electric guitar fueled \u201cShower Song?\u201d\u00a0 The standout \u201cDo it Together\u201d pulls from the Yoruba Records\u2019 family.\u00a0 The spoken word soothsayer OVEOUS and label boss Osunlade crooning a catchy hook as Flip raps, \u201cFuck that ole\u2019 division\/Unity\u2019s the mission.\u00a0 \u201cLook Both Ways,\u201d the Afefe Iku assisted single is a wobbly filtered loop of gibberish that goes nowhere real fast.\u00a0 Flip is hilarious on the ball-and-chain stomper, \u201cAll Da Smoke.\u201d\u00a0 He raps \u201cMind up in smoke like Chong and Cheech\/I get up in dat ass like thongs in cheeks\u201d.\u00a0 The delivery is old-school rap tone.\u00a0 There is no mumbling here.\u00a0 Even when Flip claims to be high.\u00a0 On \u201cMothership Tip,\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t start no shit but I\u2019m the last to run\u201d is recorded with a lo-fi drawl, courtesy a vocal bender, before the spotlight of bass and Fender explodes into feel good roller skating disco.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The release feels intentional.\u00a0 Great times.\u00a0 That leaves an impactful impression.\u00a0 You can\u2019t help but smile at Flip\u2019s attempt.\u00a0 Somehow, you want the music to continue beyond 10 songs that clocks at a total of 40 minutes.\u00a0 Tracks could have been fully realized.\u00a0 Deeper.\u00a0 Intros that escalate and outros extended.\u00a0 Then again, these days, attention spans last no longer than two minutes for music.\u00a0 As <\/span>NLS<\/span><\/i> plays like rap-by-numbers, the sonic narrative taps into a higher stream of consciousness.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
