At 4:05 am, stepping onto Florida Avenue, seen are flashing lights and heard are sirens slashing the chilly air. Police cars, first responders, and emergency vehicles barricade the road. Bystanders stare from street corners.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Finger-pointers stand down 7th Avenue.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Whatever happened doesn\u2019t look good at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Much like the drama unfolding on the capital\u2019s street in real-time mirrors the drama that began hours earlier.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>A night of helluva surprises and way too many WTFs.<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #1. Inflation is a crime.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Someone tell Washington DC.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>A night clubbing will break your bank account.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The price to party is getting out of control.<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #2.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>A ride-share home at 4 am is $53!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Compared to the earlier ride-share to the club that cost $16.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, standing at the outdoor window of the venue.\u00a0 You view your electronic ticket and read the price including fees and taxes paid was a whopping $12.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>What a steal?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>When the time on your phone reads 12:25 am.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou missed the midnight deadline.\u201d Says one most uninterested and annoyed employee ever. Her face turned away from you as to not acknowledge the fire in your eyes.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cYou have to purchase a new ticket. She continues. The new ticket price is $30!!!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #3.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>She points you to the nearby ATM with a $3 surcharge just for using the bitch.<\/span><\/p>\n

And coat check is $3 as the tip jar stares back at you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Surprise! Ultra Nate walks by towards the elevated DJ platform.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>You tell her David is playing her universal anthem. \u201cFree\u201d and on the fly remix pitted against Hardrive\u2019s \u201cDeep Inside\u201d to loud cheers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nope.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Chiseled chest David wearing a ribbed-black long-sleeve does not once disrobe. But the bevy of gays swaying, swapping saliva, and squeezing ass cheeks are nearly naked. Nipples.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Sculpted abs. And boxer briefs overshadows the right side of the room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their meager dance is all shuffling feet, half-spins and two-stepping across a soiled floor. Everywhere, bottom soles stick to the floor making that unzipping Velcro sound when walking.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Can we get some baby powder and the floor mopped please?<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #4.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Playing a Robert Owens song is clever.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>However, playing the track forever before disappearing into another song and reappearing in the soundscape goes nowhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI smell crack.\u201d A broski yells over the pinkest song played thus far that conjures memories of early episodes of “Sex and the City”- David Morales & Elle Cato\u2019s \u201c<\/span>And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going<\/a><\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The atmosphere is now consumed by poignant burning chemicals.<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #6.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>And why is David Morales not playing?<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #7.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Actually, where is David Morales?<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, there he sits between Baltimore\u2019s Deep Sugar diva darling Ultra Nate and a new music selector playing \u201cMary\u201d by Take 6.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Yawn.<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #8.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The music doesn\u2019t get better. Playing Afefe Iku\u2019s \u201cMirror Dance\u201d mixed with the bass line from The Grand High Priest\u2019s \u201cMary Mary\u201d is lazy.<\/span><\/p>\n

WTF #9.<\/span>\u00a0 “<\/span><\/span>Gypsy Women<\/a>?\u201d No comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin singing \u201cRespect\u201d before MFSB\u2019s \u201cLove is the Message\u201d pivots the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n
