I saw a neon church sign above the door.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I think.\u00a0 Oh, they changed the name of the club to the church just for tonight.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

After all, people posted, \u201camen\u201c and \u201challelujahs\u201d online.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So I walked up to the church door.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I read Jesus saves.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Oops.\u00a0 Wrong place.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

C\u2019mon.\u00a0 What church has a neon sign?\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe raise our hands in the sanctuary.\u201d\u00a0 Not.\u00a0 Where\u2019s the music?\u00a0 A chill greets the early visitors.\u00a0 Enter the foyer and be ushered down a dark hallway.\u00a0 The sanctuary sits still in complete silence.\u00a0 Only the voices of three fit and young bartenders, barely old enough to not<\/em> be alter boys, decorate the sound sphere.\u00a0 Far away, shadows move about.\u00a0 They test the sound system.\u00a0 The time reads fifteen after six.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There stands a lengthy black painted rectangle bar.\u00a0 Above the impressive stacks of spirits hang two dazzling crystal chandeliers aglow in red.\u00a0 On the floor sits two massive stacks of speakers.\u00a0 Each is positioned at the corner of a theatrical veil that hides a stage.\u00a0 The room\u2019s focal point, the dance floor awaits action in majestic splendor underneath a state of the art LED that performs an acrobatic light show.\u00a0 Adding to the ambience a machine spews vapor. \u00a0In the fog, behind the dance floor sits another black bar underneath another crystal chandelier set a fire in orange next to the DJ area.\u00a0 The DJ booth that hovers six feet off the ground is spacious \u00a0enough to accommodate any DJ and his\/her disciples.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Adjacent the DJ booth a narrow corridor leads to the holy of holies.\u00a0 What is a church without a kitchen?\u00a0 And what is a church kitchen for without cooking?\u00a0 Anyone for a church dinner?\u00a0 Instead of fried chicken, mac n\u2019 cheese wantons is on the menu.\u00a0 Just as fine.\u00a0 Both are fried in grease.\u00a0 Look up.\u00a0 There on the monitor.\u00a0 Whitney Houston delivers church through song and dance on a remixed house megamix.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Holy Trinity<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From the pulpit, Minister Of Sound Ron Pullman welcomes the growing congregation to his brainchild, Humbled Legends.\u00a0 The city\u2019s debut celebration of its kind.\u00a0 Underneath a giant disco ball the sanctuary\u2019s wooden dance floor embraces love ones.\u00a0 Brother Pride arrives.\u00a0 Sister Pickens is nearby.\u00a0 So are many others.\u00a0 The people partake in fellowship of perfect harmony.\u00a0 Minister of Sound Ron Pullman pays tribute.\u00a0 \u201cThank You,\u201d sings BeBe Winans over a Masters At Work 12\u2019 mix.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While all three Ministers Of Sound are one in the spirit of house music, all three are so unique in their ministry of sound.\u00a0 Each brings a diverse element of energy that is united underneath the umbrella of soul.\u00a0 Where ministers Ron and Kai\u2019s classic sets felt a tad tired, Minister Kemit appears spirit-filled, energized and ready to deliver a \u00a0contemporary word.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Kemit<\/a> plays the tempo of the room changes,\u201d observes one sister. \u00a0Indeed the room glows.\u00a0 Honestly Minister Of Sound Kemit glows.\u00a0 With his head tilted upwards and his arms stretched towards the heavens the music maestro is ready to preach.\u00a0 Once again, BeBe Winans shows up, this time with brother Pastor Marvin L. Although, dotting the room, the many grey hairs and dun flops signal grandparent\u2019s status.\u00a0 Perhaps the new face of geriatrics is the soulful house market.\u00a0 At one point more cellulite occupied black leather padded pews, uh-hmm couches, than bodies burning calories on the wooden floor.\u00a0 Maybe the people\u2019s bunions hurt.\u00a0 Maybe their bodies tire.\u00a0 Hallelujah anyway, as Minister Of Sound Kai returns to the pulpit and plays \u201cChurch\u201d (Sting International Remix) by Peven Everett.\u00a0 This time the sanctuary is jumping with bodies caught in the spirit of dance. \u00a0One dancer cheerfully notes, \u201cWhat an amazing turnout for a Sunday night!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps Minister of Sound Kemit wholly sums up the celebratory atmosphere with one song. \u201cSpread Love<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 Track number thirteen on his heavy-accolade long player \u201c,Everlasting<\/a>,\u201d speaks of congregating in peace, unity and most of all love.\u00a0 Listen closely as Kemit encourages people to live by example and lead out of the act and ability to spread love through music and dance.\u00a0 After all, \u201cWe Are Gathered Here In This Place\u201d sings \u00a0the song’s vocalist, Atlanta’s Sepensenahki.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
